Admissions FAQ's

A child must be five years of age by October 1 of the year they enter kindergarten.

No “waiting list” is maintained at the LSU Laboratory School. All Kindergarten applicants are notified of admission or non-admission. Applicants for grades 1-12 are notified if they are selected for admission or may be contacted if additional information is required. If a student does not accept his/her position with the LSU Laboratory School, the selection committee may select another student from the pool of applicants. As such, we encourage parents of applicants to ensure contact information is current throughout the year of application. Any changes should be emailed to ulsadmissions@lsu.edu

Some preference will be given to applicants whose siblings currently attend University Laboratory School.

Application quantities vary from year to year.

Occasionally, student attrition does occur during a school year and in such cases, a student from the pool of applicants for that academic year may be selected to fill that open spot. This is not a guarantee.

Applicants are selected for admission by a selection committee consisting of the superintendent and principals of the Lab School, a representative selected by the superintendent, and a representative from Louisiana State University selected by the LSU president.

ULS is committed to ensuring that financial circumstances do not limit access to the outstanding education we provide. Families of admitted students are eligible to apply for support from the Tuition Assistance Fund through a third party, the FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment website. Tuition assistance, provided by ULS donors, is limited and is awarded to qualified students based on household income. Recipients must re-apply each year.  Inquiries may be sent to the Admissions Office at ulsadmissions@lsu.edu.

Personal letters of recommendation are discouraged unless such a letter provides information in addition to that included in the application and that would be considered under LSU Laboratory School’s seventeen admission criteria. Letters of recommendation may be emailed to ulsadmissions@lsu.edu or mailed to LSU Laboratory School, Office of Admissions, 45 Dalrymple Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70803. The selection committee will not review the letters of recommendation but will be provided admissions information from the letters that is directly applicable to the criteria.
