Elementary School

The ULS elementary school faculty is committed to meeting the needs of our students on an individual basis. Our primary program is one of the finest in the state.  The curriculum is based on state-mandated grade level expectations for public schools while providing for the needs of students in need of intervention, remediation or enrichment.  In addition, our students in kindergarten through fifth grade receive regular instruction in music, art, physical education, guidance, and foreign languages.

We invite you to visit our school to see the outstanding educational opportunities we offer.

 Curriculum

The ULS Elementary curriculum provides rigorous opportunities for students who demonstrate readiness by extending and enriching state-mandated public school grade-level performance standards and simultaneously providing support, intervention and remediation for students who demonstrate need. Additionally, elementary students receive regular instruction in music, art, physical education, technology, guidance, library resource, and world languages with an emphasis in Spanish and French from teachers with expertise and certification in their field.

Low student/teacher classroom ratios allow us to provide close individual attention to students during daily lessons that intentionally integrate all content areas in meaningful ways and to focus on providing a variety of student engagement settings, including individual, small collaborative group and whole group opportunities. Curriculum developed in this manner allows students to explore their own personal interests and reveals talents that may have otherwise been unrealized.

Character Development

In addition to providing challenging classroom opportunities that develop academic leaders, the ULS Elementary School faculty is equally dedicated to supporting the social and emotional growth of each child.

ULS promotes good citizenship and focuses on helping each student learn what it means to be a respectful, kind, considerate and productive member of society. By focusing on character development, students participate in a variety of activities in which they learn to appreciate their own positive qualities and identify potential areas for personal growth. Only after students appreciate their own strengths and weaknesses are they able to appreciate, learn from, help and support others.

For more than 100 years, ULS faculty and staff have successfully educated, guided and provided opportunities for students to evolve into notable community contributors at the local, state, national and international levels.  The ULS Elementary School provides the foundation necessary for that evolution to occur and serves as a warm, inviting and safe place for our students to come back to as they journey towards the transformation into their adult lives.
