DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION & UNDERSTANDING

ULS Diversity & Inclusion Working Group

The ULS Diversity & Inclusion Working Group is comprised of alumni, faculty, parents, and students who are committed to advancing diversity and inclusion efforts within the University Laboratory School community.

We cannot do this without you! Please contact the designated chairperson(s) of each sub-working group below with any ideas or feedback. Also, if you are interested in being a part of this initiative next school year, a call for volunteers will be publicized each summer. We would be delighted to partner with you in helping to fulfill our missing of “Total Effort in Every Endeavor”.

Academic Enhancement

- Network with and securing guest speakers from diverse groups in order to enrich and enhance the ULS curriculum
- Participate in No Place for Hate activities

Campus Climate & Communications

- Assess the school environment through climate surveys and listening groups
- Promote diversity in ULS publications

Community Building & Programming

- Create a proactive approach to helping families from underrepresented groups navigate ULS
- Promote ULS student organizations and programs that support diversity and inclusivity

- Review the current data regarding underrepresented persons majoring in education and explore ways to attract and to retain a diverse applicant pool to job openings at ULS

- Investigate ULS policies that facilitate a culture of anti-bias and anti-discrimination and make recommendations for policies that need to be added or removed

Professional Development & Training

- Research and make recommendations for professional development opportunities, such as book studies, guest speakers and TED Talks, that promote diversity and inclusivity and that increase cultural competency among ULS faculty
