Recently, Nikole Blanchard had the opportunity to represent ULS at the ARISE Conference in India as a keynote speaker, where she shared her presentation, "The Human Advantage: Preparing Students for a Future We Can't Predict." Her presentation focused on a question that is becoming increasingly important in education: What if our responsibility isn't to prepare students for a future we cannot predict, but to prepare them to create it?
As AI and emerging technologies continue to change the way we live, work, and learn, skills such as curiosity, creativity, empathy, critical thinking, collaboration, courage, and imagination are more important than ever.
Blanchard shared her belief that technology and humanity should not be viewed as competing priorities in education. Instead, schools can use technology to expand learning opportunities while keeping relationships, purpose, and the human experience at the center.
While in India, Blanchard also had the opportunity to visit Pathways School Gurgaon, which offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum from Early Years through the Diploma Programme. The visit provided an opportunity to connect with a fellow IB school, see how the IB philosophy is brought to life across grade levels, and exchange ideas about teaching and learning.
The ARISE Conference and her time visiting schools in India provided valuable opportunities to learn, connect, and exchange ideas with educators from around the world. It was a meaningful opportunity to represent University Laboratory School and share the innovative work happening in education in Louisiana.

Alumni Spotlight: Chase Chabaud, Class of 2007
From U-High classrooms to the world of professional sports, Chase Chabaud is proof that a strong foundation goes a long way.
Today, Chase is the marketing manager at CoverFour, a sports consulting firm, where he creates campaigns for international stars of Major League Baseball and the National Hockey League.
His path started at U-High. The IB program prepared him for the rigor of the LSU MBA program. In the early 2000s, Joey Faucheux took him under his wing and gave him computer training that was far ahead of its time, skills that have only grown more valuable in today's tech-driven world. "U-High set me up to enter college with the confidence that I could handle anything they threw at me."
Creativity runs in the family. Chase's dad, Ralph Chabaud, was an outstanding fine artist known for his Jazz Fest and Crescent City Classic posters and his work on films like Steel Magnolias, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Maze Runner, and Twilight: Breaking Dawn. His legacy lives on at https://www.ralphchabaud.com.
U-High is still a family affair for Chase. His son, Carter, now wears Cub colors, and Chase and Holly are confident Carter is in good hands from K-12. "I glow with pride seeing my son wearing Cub colors."
His message to current Cubs: "Total Effort in Every Endeavor is a creed that will take you a long way. Even when the days are long, keep pushing."

Congratulations to our Middle School Swim Team on a strong showing at the September 25 meet!
The Cubs had an outstanding meet, with several top finishes across individual events and relays. The Cubs also had several additional top eight individual finishes, showcasing the team’s hard work.
Great job, Cubs! We’re proud of our Middle School Swim Team!
Richie Doming placed 1st in the 50 backstroke and 1st in the 100 IM. Grant Worthington placed 1st in the 50 butterfly and 2nd in the 100 IM. Caroline McAllister placed 2nd in both the 50 backstroke and 50 breaststroke.
The boys 200 freestyle relay team of Grant Worthington, Warren Byrd, Zachary Zeringue, and Richie Doming also took 1st place.
Also earning top-eight individual finishes were Emilia Palacio, Zachary Zeringue, Kamille Smith, and Warren Byrd.

He is a member of our Alumni Hall of Distinction, and he co-chaired the capital campaign that raised $6.7 million and transformed our campus. Thank you, Richard, for a lifetime of dedication to ULS and LSU.

Alumni Spotlight: Alexandra Henderson, Class of 2021
At just 22, Alexandra Henderson is already making her mark in the legal field at the Louisiana Supreme Court.
This year, she earned her J.D./D.C.L. from LSU's Paul M. Hebert Law Center as the youngest member of her class. She sat for the Louisiana Bar Exam in July, and in August began serving as a Term Law Clerk to Justice Piper D. Griffin.
Her path to law started in a U-High classroom. Alexandra joined U-High in eighth grade and played volleyball through her sophomore year. Then her World Geography teacher, Mr. Ryan Moore, encouraged her to take Civics with Dr. Cambre. That class changed everything, and she decided to become a lawyer.
She graduated from U-High with enough credits to enter LSU as a sophomore, where she majored in Political Communication through the 3+3 Pre-Law Program. Along the way, she worked in the Louisiana State Senate, first as a Senate Aide and later as Communications Director for Senator Greg Tarver, and interned in communications for Governor John Bel Edwards's administration.
Alexandra credits the teachers and administrators who believed in her, including Anne McConnell, Candy Robillard, Emily Peters, Jennifer Bevill, Principal Frank Rusciano, Dr. Cambre, and Mr. Moore.
"Without the teachers and administrators who invested in me during those years, none of what I have been fortunate enough to accomplish would have been possible."
U-High is still a family affair for Alexandra. Her cousin, Olivia Sterling, is U-High's Class of 2026 valedictorian and now a member of Princeton University's Class of 2030.

The Big 3 in Action!
Today, we welcomed two special guests to ULS to talk with our students about what it means to live out the ULS Big 3: Show Respect, Make Good Choices, and Give Our Best!
Jaime Glas Odom ('06) the founder of Queen of Sparkles led our girls’ presentation, while Jacob Hester, former LSU Tiger and NFL player, led our boys’ presentation. They shared stories and experiences from the worlds of entrepreneurship and athletics to bring the Big 3 to life; encouraging students to think beyond who they want to be someday and focus on who they are becoming today. Assisting in the presentations were some members of our Student Government: Lizze Acosta ('27), Cate Giering ('28), Maddie Robinson ('27), and Caliway Goodson ('28).
Through their stories, our Cubs learned that showing respect, making smart choices, and giving your best every day are habits that extend far beyond the classroom and can help set you up for success wherever life takes you.
A huge thank you to Jaime and Jacob for sharing your experiences, encouragement, and wisdom with our Cubs! We loved seeing our Big 3 in action and welcoming members of the ULS and LSU family back to campus. 💛🖤

Cubs, we have some exciting news to share, and we couldn't be prouder.
This past summer, Taylor Rising submitted proposals to present at the National Art Educators Association (NAEA) Annual Conference — the guiding body for art educators nationwide, responsible for the National Arts Standards adopted across states and a leading voice in arts education advocacy. NAEA represents around 20,000 professional members, including teachers and professors from across the country.
This week, the NAEA board selected not one, but TWO of Taylor's proposals to be presented at their national conference in New York City in March 2027. It is the first time a U-High educator has been selected to present at NAEA's national conference!
Taylor's humility and dedication to her craft make this achievement even more special. Please join us in celebrating her incredible accomplishment and for representing University Laboratory School so well. 💛🖤
