In a world increasingly characterized by globalization, interconnectedness and interdependence, it is essential young people have the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to live and work in a global society.
– Global Awareness Education Standards
At University Laboratory School, we place importance on creating well-informed global citizens who understand their roles in the world, value diversity and have the ability to take action in meaningful ways.
With this in mind, the school offers a variety of educational domestic and international travel opportunities for students in grades 7 through 12, including exchange programs with schools in Romania (7th grade), Panama (8th grade) and Chile (high school). These programs incorporate host family stays that heighten the cultural immersion experience and create long-lasting relationships. Each spring break, a group of high school students travel to another country to participate in service learning in order to help others, build leadership skills and be immersed in another culture.
Domestic and international STEM opportunities offered include collaborations with the National Flight Academy in Pensacola and participation in the London International Youth Science Forum.
Many ULS teachers independently offer educational summer travel opportunities to students ranging from exotic locations such as the Galapagos Islands, where students actively participate in research, to Europe and Australia.
All educational educational travel opportunities are teacher-led and are intended to further classroom studies and to empower students to look beyond their own horizons.
