Leadership

Dean of the College of Education

Jayne Fleener, PhD
Dean
Fleener has over 20 years of professional experience in K-12 and higher
education, including teaching high school mathematics and computer science
in North Carolina. She has her Bachelor’s degree in from Indiana University,
and two master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina. Her
doctorate is also from UNC-Chapel Hill and is in Curriculum and Instruction
with an emphasis in mathematics education. Before coming to LSU, Dr. Fleener
was on the faculty at the University of Oklahoma for fifteen years where she
also served in the role of Associate Dean of the College of Education.
Growing up, Dean Fleener attended the Indiana University Lab School and is
very pleased to be a part of the LSU Lab School Administrative Team. She has
numerous publications and national and international presentations. Her two
books, published in the United States in 2002 and 2005, are currently being
translated into Chinese. Dean Fleener is passionate about education, (she is
the daughter of educators), and educational futures. She is married to
Michael Merritt and they have one grown son, James.
Director

Wade Smith, PhD
Dr.
Wade Smith received his bachelor of education in chemistry and biology from
Louisiana State University in 1978. He taught for 11 years in Livingston
Parish and after finishing his M. Ed. from Southeastern Louisiana University
in 1985 became the principal of Denham Springs Junior High School from
1986-1999. Wade received his Ph.D. from LSU in 2000 and was appointed
assistant professor of educational administration at Auburn University. Dr.
Smith served in that position until 2002 until he was appointed Director of
the Louisiana State University Laboratory School. Dr. Smith maintains an
active research agenda focusing on self-efficacy, organizational structures
and organizational leadership. He has numerous refereed publications and
presentations. Wade has been married to Linda Smith for 29 years and they
are the parents of two daughters, Christie, and LeAnn.
Middle and High School

Albert Camburn, EdD
Secondary Principal
Dr.
Camburn received his B.A. from Saint Bernard College, a master's degree in
Secondary Education from Buffalo State College, and a doctorate in
Educational Administration from Virginia Tech. He served in Volunteers in
Service to America (VISTA) in Birmingham, Alabama, Teacher Corps in
Lackawanna, New York, and the Peace Corps in Kunduz, Afghanistan. He has
held teaching positions in New Jersey, Louisiana, and Virginia.
Before coming to the University Laboratory School, he was an assistant
principal at Warren County High School in Front Royal, Virginia. He is now
serving in his tenth year at the Lab School.
Frank Rusciano
Dean of Students
Mr.
Rusciano received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Education and a
master's degree in Education Administration and Supervision from
Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA. He then attended Louisiana
State University to fulfill requirements for certification in Mathematics
and is a National Board Certified Teacher in Mathematics.
Before coming to the Laboratory School, he was the
assistant principal of instruction at Bishop Sullivan High School (now known
as St. Michael's High School). At the Lab School Frank has taught math in
grades 6 - 12, and presently serves as Dean of Students.
Elementary Division

Dot Rumfellow
Principal
Dot
Rumfellow is completing her tenth year as Principal of the Elementary
Division at the University Laboratory School. She has been an educator for
40 years serving as a classroom teacher, school administrator, and Central
Office Supervisor of Gifted and Talented Programs. She has trained school
administrators all over the country in implementation of the International
Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. The University Lab School currently has
the only authorized IB PYP program in the state of Louisiana. Dot is also a
trained site visitor and consultant for the International Baccalaureate
Primary Program. In addition, she has presented sessions for school
administrators at the National Science Teacher’s Association Conference and
the National Middle School Association Conference.
She has completed training in Effective School Leadership, Whole Faculty
Study Groups, Professional Learning Communities, Brain-based Teaching and
Learning, and Middle School Reform.
Myra Broussard
Assistant Principal
Myra
Dugas Broussard grew up in Baton Rouge and attended Baton Rouge Magnet High
School. Upon graduating in 1983, she attended Louisiana State University
where she received a degree in Secondary Math Education in 1987.
After teaching middle school math and English at Sulphur Middle School, 5th
grade at St. John High School and standard level and honors level Geometry
and Algebra II at Plaquemine High School and St. Amant High School, Myra
began teaching at University High in 2000.
Continuing her education at LSU, Myra earned a masters degree in Education
Administration in 2003. While at LSU Laboratory School she has taught
Geometry, Algebra II and III and Advanced Math and Trigonometry.
Myra has 4 children and her husband, Coach Burke Broussard, is the head
baseball coach and assistant football coach at University High. After
teaching for 18 years, Myra presently serves as the assistant principal for
the elementary division.
