Admissions

Processimage

Students admitted to the University Laboratory School are selected from those whose applications are current and complete.

Families making application should recognize that there are 100 places in kindergarten and very few openings for students in grades 1-12.

Elementary students applying for Kindergarten-fifth grade will complete a readiness screening prior to final admission and placement.

If your child is applying for Kindergarten, please forward the principal’s recommendation form to the child’s current preschool and ask that the form be sent directly to University Lab School when completed.

When submitting your application, please ensure that all required documentation is attached. We ask that the student’s transcript or report cards are submitted by the parent/guardian rather than being mailed directly from the school. Complete applications are required by the Admissions Committee for consideration.

The Lab School does not provide transportation to and from school.  It is the responsibility of parents to arrange for timely drop off and pick up of their children from school.

Campus Visits

As a parent, I know you will appreciate how much we value instructional time with our students. Unfortunately, with the amount of request for tours, we are not able to accommodate individual tours.

New Kindergarten Applicants - Kindergarten teachers focus on current students’ needs and the constant in and out of the classroom, distracts young attention spans. In addition, our little ones are still learning routines and procedures so a tour at this time would not be an accurate portrayal of a day in the life of our student.

An open house for parents of kindergarten students who have successfully completed a 2017-2018 kindergarten application will take place in mid-November. Prospective parents will be given an opportunity to ask our teachers questions as well as have a video viewing of daily instructional time, lunch, recess, etc…Also, our ancillary teachers (Music, Art, PE, French and Spanish) will also be available for chats too! More information will be available during your child’s kindergarten screening in late October.

1st-12th Grade Applicants – Admission is based on student attrition. Once a student is admitted, an individual tour will be given. In the spring of 2017, we will have a virtual tour available on our website for all parents to view.
