University High School

Both Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate classes are offered as well as College Preparatory classes. AP and IB courses have ACT score and prerequisite requirements students must meet in order to enroll in these classes. Students may also take courses at LSU through independent study or concurrent enrollment. The LSU Laboratory School is the only high school in the state of Louisiana to be approved for the IB Diploma Program. Classes are scheduled by blocks on alternating days (A/B block scheduling) and students may earn 8 credits per year.

Course Offerings

Concurrent Enrollment

Students at University High School are eligible to enroll in concurrently enrolled courses through LSU.  These courses are taught on the U High campus during regular school hours.  Students that successfully complete a concurrent course receive a letter grade and an LSU transcript that will apply to earned credit for the student if they enter LSU.  The credits will also transfer to any university that accepts credits from LSU.  Tuition for these classes is waived as are University related fees.  Students are expected to purchase their own textbooks and they are also required to pay any course related fees that may apply.

For the 2007-2008 school year the following courses are available for concurrent enrollment:

            a)  Math 1021 (College Algebra)

            b)  Math 1022 (College Trigonometry)

            c)  English 1001 (Freshman English)

            d)  Environmental Systems 1126

Details regarding student eligibility for these courses vary and interested students and parents should contact Myra Broussard (578-0414) for additional information.  Efforts are underway to expand the concurrent enrollment offerings so the list of offerings may grow before the start of the 2007-2008 school year.
